All the latest free Nexus One news

The free Nexus One  is now available in the UK!

According to T3.com

A month after Google Nexus One's official launch we're a step closer to getting hold of it here in the UK. Gadget emporium  Play.com has the handset available to pre-order for a hefty £599.

According to the website the Android 2.1 sporting phone will be avialable from the 16th of February. Shipping will take 3-4 working days and you'll receive your Google phone in mint condition and unlocked to any network, according to our calculations you'll be up and running by the 20th of February.

But by my calculations, £599 is far too much to pay. Why not get your free nexus one pre-order!?!

Launch of Google Nexus One

According to the Telegraph.co.uk

Called the Nexus One, Google will unveil the handset at its Silicon Valley headquarters in America tomorrow, and the device is set to go on sale there from January 12. A UK launch date has not yet been announced, but it is likely to follow early this year.

As increasing numbers of people are using their mobile phones to access the internet, Google has already launched its own mobile phone operating system, called Android, that works on a range of devices. However the Nexus One will be the first handset that the company has designed itself.

Like the iPhone, Android offers fully integrated web-browsing, music and video playing and a large library of applications that users can choose to install to add to their phone’s capabilities. One of the services likely to be available for the first time in America is European-based music service Spotify, which challenges Apple’s iTunes.

The Nexus One has been built by manufacturer HTC, and is rumoured toinclude a larger screen and better camera than those featured on the iPhone. It also offers free satnav capabilities, which are only available for an additional charge on the iPhone.

The handset is likely to cost consumers $179.99 (£111) on a contract with T-Mobile, but will also be available for $529.99 (£324) without any contract tying users to a specific network.

Google’s announcement is timed to challenge the dominance of the world’s largest technology fair, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which takes place this week, and to overshadow Apple’s launch of a tablet computer, which is expected on January 26.

The name Nexus One is a reference to the film Blade Runner, which is reported to have led to the estate of author Philip K Dick threatening to sue Google.

Google Nexus One leak?

According to the Telegraph.co.uk

The Google Nexus One is the first mobile handset designed entirely by Google. The phone runs Google’s Android operating system and the hardware was designed in collaboration with HTC.

The invite says: “With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we’ve seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what’s possible.”

Since details of the phone emerged earlier this month, rumours suggested that it would go on sale in early January. Rumours on gadget blogs today suggest that the phone will go on sale in the US on January 5. There’s no word yet - even as a rumour - about whether the phone will be available in the UK or whether Britons will have to wait to get their hands on it.

Gadget blogs are also quoting leaked documents saying that the phone will be available unlocked for $530 (£334) and for $180 (£113) as part of a contract with T-Mobile. The unlocked phone will work on any GSM network, allowing users to simply insert their SIM and start using the phone. (As Ron Maltiel points out via Twitter, the Nexus One won't work on every network. CDMA networks, such as Verizon, don't use a SIM so the phone will not be compatible.)

Again, there is no word on UK pricing or which network, if any, will supply a subsidised version of the phone.
